Farewell Party in Budapest
Patrick
Sebile, widely considered to be among the most elite of the world’s lure
designers, has left Pure Fishing. It is seven years since he sold his lure
brand to the industry’s biggest manufacturer.
The
ebullient Frenchman spent his last day at the company walking the show floor of
the EFFTEX trade show in Budapest in an unofficial capacity.
His
departure comes as a result of the major restructure taking place under Newell
Brands, which purchased Pure Fishing from Jarden last year. Pure Fishing CEO
John Doerr also leaves the company this week, having been replaced by Neil
Eibeler.
“The owners
have made decisions about changing the structure at Pure Fishing and I respect
that,” said Sebile. “I will be taking time in the next few months to consider
what I do next.”
Sebile
still sees his future in the tackle industry but will not be making any
immediate decisions. “I will stay in the industry that has been my life and my
passion for so long,” he told Angling International. “But there is no pressure
on me to rush into anything. I know how to create and run a company and that is
a possibility for the future, though not a certainty.”
The Sebile
brand started as a one-man vision in France in 2006 and enjoyed a meteoric
rise, transferring operations to Colorado in the US.
The
high-profile business was purchased by Pure Fishing in 2011, with the founder’s
skills being extended across the multi-brand manufacturer.
He was
heavily involved in new product development at PENN and SpiderWire and remains
proud of his contribution. Penn broke Shimano’s stranglehold on the saltwater
spinning reel award at ICAST by winning the category for four years on the
trot.
Sebile
lives on Florida’s east coast, but has also purchased a property in Lake Wales
in Central Florida and plans to build a house there for his wife and sixteen
month-old twins.
